Description: Perennial herb with stout taproot, to 20 cm (8 in.) tall,
bad-smelling. Stems ascending, well surpassing the leaves. Leaves basal,
in clusters, with persistent old leaf bases, once pinnatified; leaflets
linear, less than 15 cm (6 in.). Inflorescence of compound umbels. Flower
petals yellow or sometimes purple. Fruit oblong, 7 - 12 mm (to 0.5 in.)
long, wings up to 1 mm wide. Time of flowering: late spring to summer.
Habitat: Open, rocky slopes at middle and upper elevations. Elevation recorded
in Nevada: 2,400 m (7,875 ft).
Range: Known from the Sheep Range and Virgin Mountains, Clark County, Nevada;
also in Utah.
Comments: In the MSHCP, this species is listed as Lomatium graveolens var.
clarkii; however, the name var. alpinum is the accepted variety for the Nevada
geographic area.
